Seller's Description
***TWIN CARBURETTORS - TWIN CAM – LEATHER INTERIOR – RWC - SUNROOF – MANUAL***
The Lotus Esprit in the past few years has become increasingly to find with so few available.
The value has appreciated considerably, and looks like it will only continue to do so.
The Lotus Esprit's are all unique, and this Esprit is the 1989 X180 model, which came after the Series 3. It is the naturally aspirated 2.2 litre motor with twin carburettors, and also comes with twin camshafts.
Its body is designed by Peter Stevens, with a front end from '91 SE model. The interior is leather trim, and is sumptuous to look at and to drive in.
The Lotus Esprit experience is one of being close to the ground, a wonderful engine soundtrack, a great grip on the road and the exhilaration of skimming along the road surface.
When Lotus launched its sexy Esprit in 1976, its exotic looks rivalled offerings from Ferrari and Lamborghini, and it marked a coming of age for the one-time backyard-shed car builder.
In only a few years the car was boosted to supercar status.
The Lotus did, however, attain car stardom in the 1977 James Bond flick The Spy Who Loved Me, driven by Roger Moore.
It reputedly cost Lotus £18,000 to provide a pair of its Esprit S1s and five body shells – one of which was turned into a submarine – and the film grossed a for-the-time huge $187-million. But the promotional value for the new Esprit was, as the commercial says, priceless. The Esprit reprised its role as super-spy transportation in the 1981 Bond movie, For Your Eyes Only.
Those first Esprits performed well and looked gorgeous with edges and wedges fibreglass bodywork by Italy's Giorgetto Giugiaro, and Lotus founder Colin Chapman’s inspired mid-engine, lightweight-backbone-chassis based engineering.
Their 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, twin-cam, 16-valve motors produced 160 hp and needed eight seconds to get to 100 km/h and had a top speed of 215 km/h.
This 1989 Lotus Esprit SE was imported from England, and they changed the analogue instruments for digital ones. The changeover mileage was at 22,914 miles, and the new odometer's latest service says 8,132 km. The total km's are 45,101.
