Seller's Description
The Volkswagen Beetle is widely considered one of the most iconic cars of all time. It was an affordable means of transport that was originally designed to be used in Nazi Germany prior to world war 2 and ended up becoming one of the most popular people’s cars that defined a generation and sold over 21 million units across the original platform worldwide. It is the kind of car that no car collection or museum would be complete without including.
This particular bug is a beautifully restored example of a 1952 split window beetle. This was the last year for the split windows before going to an oval rear window in 1953. It is also a crotch cooler model with opening air vents that was only produced for approximately 8 months. Split window beetles are hugely sought after amongst collectors because this is the way the car was originally designed to be and very rarely do they become available for sale in the market today.
Prior to the recent restoration, the car spent approx. 28 years on display in a Porsche museum in Denmark. It retains its original LHD steering position as were almost all of the split window cars with the exception of only a few.
Recently the car has undergone a complete restoration which included removing the body and taking the whole car back to bare metal and repairing any areas that required attention. The car was then repainted in the original Beige colour inside and out. The interior was recovered in the correct style German material and correct German square weave carpets were all redone.
The original 1100cc engine was rebuilt by the previous owner. A period correct original Judson supercharger was added to the car as a unique talking point and to help boost performance. 1952 was the first year for synchro’s to be added to all gears other than first which made the beetle much more user friendly for all to drive. The four speed manual transmission works nicely as it was designed. The original 16” rims were repainted to match the car and have new tyres fitted all round.
This car would be best suited to a collector or enthusiast that wants a fun driveable investment. The prices on these cars have climbed steadily over the years and are commanding strong prices in the current market. A beetle like this could certainly form the talking point and corner stone of any car collection.
