For sale is my 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 Drag car that I built 3 years ago as a tribute to the Ford Thunderbolt Fairlanes that ruled the dragstrips in the USA back in 1964. I'm selling because it's time for me to retire after 55 years of drag racing in the USA and Australia. We have been racing in ANDRA Super Sedan class and Vintage Gas class at Nostalgia Drags in Alice Springs, Mildura, and Tailem Bend with consistent 10.0 Second passes. I took home the V/G trophy at Dragway at the Bend last October, and the Red Centre Nats Heavy Hitters 10 Sec bracket this year at RCN11. The Fairlane is built with the best race parts and equipment and is very reliable, low maintenance, and very easy to operate and drag race. It was originally a RHD 4 door car registered in VIC many, many years ago, and I converted it to a US-spec LHD 2 door hardtop with doors imported from the USA for the Thunderbolt look. The body has Crites USA fiberglass panels including teardrop hood, front fenders, front and rear bumpers and trunk lid. I hung a Moon fuel tank out front to complete the 1960's Gasser look, but it is for show only. Also keeping with the Thunderbolt theme I built a 427 FE Ford big block stroked to 489 CID with a C6 3 speed automatic behind it. The 489 is built on a new Bear Block Motors (BBM) 427 block that is cast from high tensile, diesel grade iron, with siamese cylinder walls, 8620 alloy steel main caps, among other race oriented improvements. It has the Scat forged crank, Molnar H beam rods, ICON Forged flat top pistons, and everything machined and balanced by Milton Machine in Adelaide. The heads are ported Blue Thunder 428MR alloy with stainless valves and T&D rocker shafts. It runs a custom solid roller cam, single Holley 850 DP on a Victor intake, and an MSD billet dizzy. It's all controlled by an MSD7 box that helps me with start retard, 2 step, burnout and top end rev limiters. Fenderwell headers exit behind the front wheel opening with 'Greta' keeping an eye on my carbon emissions. The diff is the bulletproof 9" with Dutchman 31 spline axles, Strange spool and 4.30 ratio. It sits on Calvert Racing monoleaf springs, Caltrax and adjustable shocks. We tied together the front and rear chassis subframes and installed a full chrome moly ANDRA certified roll cage for Super Sedan class. It has a current ANDRA logbook. The shock towers and inner guards were removed to install a Mustang II style front suspension and steering with Wilwood disc Brakes. Firewall and front floor were replaced to make more room for the 489CID big block and C6. Two Wilwood remote brake master cylinders are behind the LHD instrument panel, which I kept looking stock. The instruments light up inside and even the speedometer is functional. Also functional are the headlights, tail lights, and parking lights. I kept a dipper switch in the wiring harness and the hi/low beams work great on a dark return road. I used a Painless Wiring race harness to wire the car and the fuse box is hidden inside the glove box. This car is a pleasure to drive, hooks up easy on the 29.5x9x15 Hoosiers, and goes straight as an arrow on a prepped track. I do not use NOS to go 10.0 ET's, so with NOS the Fairlane has easy 8 or 9 second ET potential, and the motor is built to handle anything you put into it. Along with the Fairlane, I have a 9 metre enclosed car trailer for sale that has everything you need to camp in the pits, including shower, toilet, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave, oven, stove and even the kitchen sink. It also has a side awning, A/C and roof mounted Solar power to keep the battery charged. Winches to load the car and lower the rear door.
