THE STORY
Launched in 1965 the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow had a sleek, contemporary style while retaining the traits of superb craftsmanship and quality.
Its unibody design was a first for Rolls-Royce and made for a lighter, more rigid car which improved handling, ride and comfort.
The 1969 model was powered by a 6.2 litre V8 engine, and a slick 4-speed column shift automatic transmission (the Turbo Hydra-Matic from General Motors) ensured effortless cruising.
The Silver Shadow utilised a Citroen hydropneumatic, self-levelling suspension system which, when combined with the four-wheel disc brakes, gave the cars supreme handling.
Inside, the spacious cabins featured opulent Connolly leather upholstery, rich wood veneers and deep-pile Wilton wool carpets. Air conditioning and power windows rounded out high passenger comfort levels.
The cars also featured lightweight aluminium bonnet and boot lids to save weight and increase performance.
THE CAR
This fantastic 1969 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow is finished in Silver Metallic with a Black vinyl wrap applied to the roof and bonnet in the style of the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud.
Powered by its original 6.2 V8 engine coupled to a Turbo 400 automatic transmission, it is in great condition and has been mechanically pampered. The beautifully responsive V8 has effortless power and the transmission shifts smoothly. The car’s power steering is light with a good turning circle.
Owned by a professional mechanic, the list of work completed is extensive and includes a new radiator, thermostat, water pump, fan belts, brakes and brake accumulators.
The car also has heavy duty rear springs, upgraded front struts from a Rolls-Royce Spur, transmission cooler with an underfloor fan, new air-conditioning compressor (also re-gassed), LED headlights, a new exhaust system, new front wheel bearings and a viscous coupling fan on the cooling system.
The oiling system has been upgraded to a spin-on Ryco filter instead of the troublesome original cartridge system.
There is also a heavy-duty battery with voltmeter and trickle-charger in the boot, a full tool kit and jack, fire extinguisher, tinted windows and new tyres.
The stereo system has been upgraded to a Bluetooth system with microphone and new speakers have been installed.
This beauty retains her original Blue Connolly Brothers leather with appropriate seat patina for its age. The front grill, chrome and stainless steel are all in excellent condition. The wood veneer is in good-excellent condition.
All electrics on the car are functioning including gauges, electric seats, remote fuel cap release and power windows. The quilted cover under the bonnet is in exceptional condition.
A turnkey, well-maintained Rolls ready to cruise anywhere.
