Seller's Description
For sale is a genuine well known matching numbers 1970 Yellow Dolly LC GTR XU-1. Spending all its life in Sydney and maintains its original engine paired with original Opel 4 speed gearbox and Banjo 3.36 limited slip differential (although Holden production records has a 3.08 ratio banjo lsd recorded , it is believed this is incorrect and a 3.36 ratio lsd was installed from factory - 3.36 ratio was standard issue on XU-1's and 3.08 ratio was optional). It’s all there, including 3100X engine block, XU-1 head, headers, Opel gearbox, bosch starter motor, alternator, radiator fan, triple carburettors, brake booster, distributor, rat trap, seatbelts and interior plus more, It's all original. Respected Holden historian Norm Darwin wanted a XU-1 on the front cover of his Torana Tough book and it had to be 100% original. When he saw Sean Patterson's XU-1 (2nd Owner) at the 2012 All Holden Day he knew he found his car and lucky for Norm he got the colour he wanted. These zippy Bathurst bullets are so rare only 1397 LC GTR XU-1s were made. Many were destroyed during racing and having fun that only a few remain today. Delivered to Norman Booth Dee Why in September 1970 it was first sold to Michael Driver of Avalon. He drove it till 1976 and stored it for 10 years selling it to Sean in 1986 with only 29,000 miles on the odometer. Sean only clocked about another 3000 miles before selling it in 2020. When Sean bought the car there was a disagreement over an extra $20 for the log books on top of the car's purchase price. The original owner told him to come back when he had the extra $20 and he'd give him all the paperwork on the car. Sean never went back because in those days travelling from the western suburbs of Sydney to Avalon was thought of as a million miles away. The XU-1 was in need of some restoration to the exterior paintwork that had weathered from being in storage. The exterior, engine bay was resprayed along with paint protection to the undercarriage. The interior is if not all, mostly in original factory finish. This XU-1 with low mileage is the real deal maintaining its original performance XU-1 head, triple Stromberg CD 150 carburettors, two cast iron heads and livery. It also has the dealer fitted insect mesh on the radiator and the first dealership sticker on the back window. Only recently the original GMH rear suspension bushes were replaced to keep it roadworthy. The bushes along with the factory distributor, wiper motor and bumper bars will come with the sale. The Yellow Dolly is illustrated on pages 69,78,79,80 and 81 in Norm Darwin's Torana Tough book - History Holden Torana 1967-1980 and photos of compliance plates on pages 271, 273 and 274. All three compliance plates are factory fixed and have never been removed from the car and all belong to the body number. The engine sounds great and the Opel gearbox and shifter was recently overhauled, the whole driveline feels solid and the car drives well. Its performance will not disappoint however no joyrides will be offered. This is a unique XU-1 that ticks all the boxes for a serious enthusiast. I can assist in providing more photos or even a video inspection of the car. Currently on non-transferable club registration. Information given in this advertisement is based on knowledge given by previous owners, GMH part numbers listed in the original catalogue, date codes on parts, GMH Torana CD disc production reports, comparisons to other known genuine XU-1s, and information provided by Holden Historical Services. The next owner should conduct their own research and inspections so that they are happy with their new purchase. PRICE IS NEGOITABLE AND CAN BE DISCUSSED IN PERSON ONLY
