1977 LINCOLN VERSAILLES, 1977 was the first year for the Lincoln Versailles, Ford's answer to the Cadillac Seville and Ford's Mercedes fighter for the small luxury car market. They are becoming very rare in America now and very rare in Australia. The Versailles was sold only as a four door sedan and was the final product derived from the 1960 Ford Falcon. They sold from 1977 to 1980 where a total of 50,156 where produced. Only 16,000 of the 1977 Models where made and were the only model to be fitted with the 351 c.i engine. In a country of 360 Million people you can understand why they have become rare. Almost every exterior and interior body part was upgraded to meet the luxury car market. The Versailles came with forged alloy wheels and disc brakes on all four. They also have the tried and tested popular 9inch rear differential. As mentioned before this Lincoln has the 351 c.i engine where all later models had the 302 c.i. This small Lincoln was dearer than the town car of that year and approximately $3,000 dearer than the mark V coupe which limited their sales. Built on a Falcon chassis the Versailles complete rear end assembly or disc brake setup can be fitted to many other 1960 and 70 Ford products including a Mustang which has made them a very popular swap. This particular vehicle is an absolute delight to drive with all the Lincoln luxury you would expect. It has power everything and everything works but beware it is so quiet you may fall asleep while driving. It has an excellent engine, auto and brakes. The previous owner in America informed me the engine and gear box recieved a complete re-build not long before I imported the car and it's quiet and smooth running certainly tends to verify this. It is fitted with the original factory forged alloy wheels and has good tyres. There are some blemishes starting to appear on some horizontal surfaces of the exterior paint due to age but are only noticable up very close, general paint is in good condition. The interior is excellent, original and un-marked. I have owned the vehicle for approximately 18 months and till just recently was our fully registered everyday driver. There are absolutely no issues with this car and drives perfectly.
