The Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL was the fastest 4 door sedan at its time of release (0-100 in 6.3 Seconds, with a 6.3L V8...), and without losing any of the luxury that came with it. It was incredibly luxurious for its time giving other luxury car manufactures a run for their money, boasting disc brakes, air suspension, power steering, power windows, central locking and more.
The "Red Pig" was the car launched the household name of AMG into the status that it is today, and the first car to wear the badge properly. It was given the name "Red Pig" at the 24 Hour of LeMans in 1971 as people could not believe this big bulky 300SEL was entered against some seriously sleek and fast race cars. Not only did it wipe the smile off their faces, but it challenged the entire race line-up and finished 1st in its class and 2nd overall.
This 300SEL has traveled 55,393 Miles and was imported and complied into Australia from Chicago in 2004 still as a left hand drive. The car is currently registered, but on non-transferable Historic Plates. This 300SEL has undergone nearly $100,000 worth of work in its lifetime and is a true testament to the care and love by the owners. It is supplied with a folder rich with history, receipts and information as well as original books and full service history. The car is currently owned by a specialist Mercedes mechanic and recent significant work includes a full airbag suspension renewal with the control valves rebuilt in 2023 and a mechanical refresh including a water pump in 2024.
If the new owner wants to return the car back to a non-tribute standard, all original parts are included with the original air filter assembly, original front seats, original steering wheel, front and rear bumper bars, steel wheels with matching hubcaps.
You could write a book about the history of this car, the Red Pig and the 300SEL but I will let the pictures do the talking. Only 6,526 M-B 300 SEL 6.3s were ever produced, and who knows how many are left. This is one very serious collectible today.
