1959 ASTON MARTIN DB 2/4 MK III
The second Aston Martin to win Motorclassica’s Best in Show award, Anna Purcell’s DB 2/4 is in ‘Mk III’ spec, which was available from 1957 to 1959 and defined against the Mk II by alterations to the body and grille, a new hydraulic clutch and optional disc brakes, overdrive and automatic transmission.
Powered by a 2.9-litre straight six, outputs varied from 121 to 145kW, depending on induction and exhaust options.
The Best in Show DB2/4 Mk III is one of just 551 examples produced and one of only two finished in Primrose Yellow.
In Purcell’s ownership for the past 20 years, the car was sent to Creative Custom Cars for restoration in 2015. The restoration team put thousands of hours into research before a spanner was even lifted on the four-year project.
It’s worth noting that the DB 2/4 Mk III established Aston Martin’s place in James Bond lore, as the model was featured in the novel Goldfinger, written by Ian Fleming in 1959.
