For its 34th annual gathering this Easter, vanners of all shapes, sizes and ages - from all over the country - will be descending on the Geelong Showgrounds, the hub for three days of cruises, car games, displays, kids activities and, of course, parties! After holding their nationals at a number of smaller towns and regional centres over the past few decades, the inclusion of Hot Rods and custom cars into the mix for this year has necessitated the move to a bigger town with greater and better facilities.
Camping for entrants is available on the showgrounds site, which will also serve as the start point for a number of cruises around the Geelong region, as well as burnouts and car games which will run at the Avalon speedway. These will all take place on Easter Saturday, April 11, followed by a dinner dance with live music.
Prior to that, there will be a special Friday night auction for entrants only, will see much-needed proceeds going to the CFA and the SES.
Those new to vanning should get along to the Showgrounds on Sunday, April 12 for the Show 'n' Shine Public Day, where more than 100 stock and custom vans will be on display, along with 100+ hot rods and other vehicles. Another highlight will be Wayne Harrison of Advanced Airbrush, who will create a 'live' 1.2 x .9mt artwork on Sunday, which will be auctioned off for charity later in the day. See the image of 'Highway Menace' below to get an idea of the sort of awesome artwork that Wayne will create on the day.
The event will be open to all vans, rods, chrome bumper and special interest vehicles. For further details, please see www.vanning.org.au, or phone (03) 5247 1961, Mob: 0432 916 220
