99 Nicknamed Classic Cars
Pretty much every car buff knows of the unofficial names that certain cars have garnered over the years, like “Beetle,” “Pony Car,” “Gullwing” and “Tin Lizzy,” but there are more – almost 100 more, actually, which have been compiled in a fresh release from teNeues - 99 Nicknamed Classic Cars.
Compiled and written by Michael Kockritz, the list includes nicknames most of us are familiar with, along with some that would stump Aussie car buffs, but be more familiar to American or European readers, like “Black Widow” and “Bubble Maker” (that’s a racing ’57 Chevy and Chev 3100 pickup, by the way).
Accompanying Kockritz’s text on each vehicle are beautiful illustrations by Helge Jepsen, a German artist whose work has been published in magazines around the world. Jepsen offers full-colour illustrations that are a simplified, yet accurate rendition of each vehicle.
This large format (27.5cm x 27.5cm), 208-page hardcover is an interesting and amusing way to expand your automotive knowledge. If you don’t know what a “Goddess” or a “Pink Panther” is, you will after reading this book!
99 Nicknamed Classic Cars is due for Australian release in June 2017, priced from $110.00RRP and available from specialty motoring and selected general bookshops. Go to: <a href="www.peribo.com.au>peribo.com.au</a> to find your nearest stockist.
