All Ford Day highlight - Shelby GT500 ‘Mz Hyde Edition’
In recent years, the annual All Ford Day in Geelong has seen numbers of the new, factory RHD Mustang boom. The 2023 show was no exception, with dozens of the sixth-generation pony car on display, including many modified and personalised examples. This is one of them and is perhaps the most intriguing.
Unfortunately, there’s not a lot we can tell you about this car, as the owner wasn’t around when these photos were taken. Even though the badging and other identification inside and out looks legit, we couldn’t find any evidence of the ‘MZ HYDE’ as a genuine Shelby GT500 variant, or indeed if this car is an actual Shelby GT500 to begin with, as a plaque on the radiator cover suggests it’s a GT500 tribute.
The nearest link we can find to the origins of Mz Hyde is a track of the same name by US metal band, Halestorm. Lyrics from that song adorn the rear window, and a “chassis number” plaque inside the cabin references Halestorm’s lead singer, Lzzy Hale, so our best guess is that this Shelby is one fan’s personalised tribute to Lzzy.
Regardless of its origins, this hi-po Mustang looked the goods in its lime green paint with white striping and blackout detailing on things like the front and rear aero elements, grille, fuel cap, taillights and rear wing. The heavily-ventilated bonnet is a genuine Shelby item, but the wheels (and possibly the faux rear scoops) are aftermarket.
Inside, it all looks like current-generation Mustang GT (or Shelby GT500), with further identification pointing to the Halestorm connection. An auxiliary gauge pod has been fitted and some of the lime green exterior has made its way onto things like the air vent surrounds and paddle shifters, with green trim on the floormats continuing the theme.
Similar custom touches are evidenced under the bonnet, with what appears to a mix of Shelby and aftermarket parts added to the 5.0-litre V8.
