Ballarat Festival of Motoring this weekend!
Rescheduled to the Father's Day weekend (September 1 and 2) for this and future years, the festival celebrates the running of a number of race meetings at the Ballarat airfield, including the first motor racing event held in Victoria following World War II. The last meeting at the airfield was the 1961International Meeting featuring the Victoria Trophy Race with Formula 1 cars from Lotus, BRM and Cooper competing.
Special vehicles on display during the 2012 Ballarat Festival of Motoring will include the Williams FW 07 of 1980 World F1 Champion Alan Jones, Ron Townley's Offenhauser Indianapolis Speed Car and a host of important Australian and European historic racing cars.
The 2012 Ballarat Festival of Motoring kicked off today, August 28, but the major activities are scheduled for this Father's Day weekend. A motor show of classic and historic vehicles and model car expo will be held in Ballarat's elegant and historic Mining Exchange from August 29 to September 1, a Show and Shine competition on Saturday September 1 and sprint and circuit events for historic cars at the Ballarat airfield on Father's Day, September 2.
There will also be a special Father's Day lunch available at the airfield, making it a special day out for Dad, and demonstrations by a World War 2 Mustang P51 V12 fighter aeroplane.
The organizers of the Ballarat Festival of Motoring have sourced a magnificent antique silver trophy which will be awarded based on the winner's individual contribution to the event as well as results achieved in the Show & Shine and on-track performance in the Sunday events at the airfield.
The Ballarat Festival of Motoring will be a great weekend of historic motor sport for Dads and their families. The event is organized by motor sport veterans Gary Grant and John Emery, and is fully supported by CAMS and the City of Ballarat.
