Bathurst 50th Anniversary 50 cent
The result of a collaboration between V8 Supercars and the Royal Australian Mint, the design of the 2013-dated, uncirculated coin features a stylised car and representation of the classic twists of Mount Panorama on the reverse (tail) side.
Given the small surface area, details are minimal, including the car, though one suspects that also removes any Holden vs Ford favoritism!
"The Royal Australian Mint have done a great job in capturing the energy and passion of this iconic event in a coin design," said The Hon Bernie Ripoll MP, Parliamentary Secretary to The Treasurer.
"The Bathurst 1000 has a long and proud history, and is the most watched motor sport race in Australia, so it's fitting that this milestone has been commemorated in coin form," Mr Ripoll said.
"It is a real privilege for our milestone to be commemorated in such a long-lasting way, and shows how meaningful this remarkable motorsport event is to Australian sporting culture," said V8 Supercars spokesperson CEO David Malone.
"We hope that everyone who tunes in to watch the race this weekend will be excited to get their hands on this piece of Bathurst 1000 history," Malone added.
The 50 years of the Bathurst Endurance Race 50c coin is now available for purchase from www.ramint.gov.au or by calling the Royal Australian Mint Call Centre on 1300 652 020.
