Briggs Exhibition
A showcase of Briggs' impressive body of work opens this March 12th, at the Australian Academy of Design, Melbourne.
Born in New Zealand, Briggs worked in design and advertising in New Zealand, the UK and Australia, where he quickly became the king of automotive line drawings, working on illustrations for almost every automotive account in the country.
The progression into auto-art was not a planned path. Rather, he was directed into it, eventually becoming a specialist in the field.
Briggs has created commissioned works for a number of private and corporate clients, including Porsche Cars Australia, the motor racing stamp series for Australia Post and even racecar liveries for the V8 Supercars of Glenn Seton and Graig Lowndes.
While there are those who still argue that Briggs' work is 'commercial' art and not fine art, what can't be argued is the dynamiism and vibrancy of his creations.
The Australian Academy of Design is located at 220 Ingles Street, Port Melbourne. The exhibition is open 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday, from March 12th to April 4th. Ph: (03) 9676 9000 for details.
If you're going to be in town for the F1 Grand Prix, make some time in your intinerary to have a look at this exhibition - we're sure you'll be impressed.
