Bugatti Veyron
Since then, 200 of the supercars have been sold. With a price tag nearing $2 million they are in a very exclusive owners club!
The Veyron was briefly the world's fastest production car. It is powered by a 8-litre W16 engine. The W16 is essentially a pair of narrow angle V8s mated together with a common crankshaft, with the whole unit being mounted longitudinally ahead of the rear axle on a separate aluminium subframe.
With a displacement of 7993cc the engine is amazingly compact at just 710mm in length and 767mm in width. Added to the engine are four turbochargers, with power boosted even further with the addition of two water to air intercoolers. The gearbox is a seven speed sequential manual unit, with drive through all four wheels.
The engine produces an awesome 726kW of power and a truck pulling 1250Nm of torque. Zero to 100km/h is reached in 3 seconds, with a top speed of 406 km/h. Seriously fast by anyone's standards.
