Chevrolet announce 2016 Z06 'C7.R Edition' Corvette
"Corvette Racing's legacy and technology were significant influences on the development of the Corvette Z06 and the new C7.R Edition honours the direct link between the racecar and the production model," said Harlan Charles, Corvette product and marketing manager.
"It also advances Chevrolet's plan to offer special edition models that offer unique, personal ownership experiences."
Available in coupe or convertible forms, and limited to just 500 specially-serialized units, the C7.R Edition will be fitted with the Z07 Performance Package, consisting of carbon ceramic-matrix brakes and Michelin PS Cup 2 tyres with yellow accent stripes. In addition to enhanced braking and cornering, the Z07 package also includes adjustable front and rear aero components.
"The Z07 Performance Package enhances overall performance to make the Corvette Z06 one of the most track-capable cars you can buy off the dealership floor and still drive to work every day," Charles said.
Powerplant is the standard 650hp (485kW) LT4 V8, with transmission, suspension and other technologies, like the Magnetic Ride Control, Performance Traction management and electronic limited slip diff also as per the current Z06.
Finished in the same Corvette Racing Yellow as the competition cars (with the option of black), other unique features on the C7.R include yellow brake calipers, Corvette Racing logos on the wheel caps, carbon fibre ground effects package, visible carbon fibre bonnet detailing and Spectra Grey Metallic grilles and vents.
Inside, there's a Jet Black leather interior with sueded microfiber Competition Sport Seats and accents on the instrument panel, steering wheel, gear shifter and doors, with yellow contrast stitching throughout. Gloss-finish carbon fibre trim and Corvette Racing sill plates are other features, with each C7.R Edition identified by an individually-numbered interior plaque.
While this latest Corvette won't come to Australia officially (the upcoming sixth generation Camaro is a strong possibility, though), the Z06 C7.R Edition should be procurable via the usual specialist importers.
