Chopped Rod and Custom Festival 2011
One of the highlights of Chopped, and one that sets this event apart from many others, is the 'dirt drags'. As the name implies, it's quarter mile-style action on the dirt. This year, the dirt drags were influenced by the weather on Saturday and became more of a mud fest! By Sunday, the field had dried out allowing the cars to get some good runs/traction, while still entertaining the crowd. By the look on the drivers' faces, they were having a ball, too, with grins from ear to ear.
More than just a car show, Chopped is a celebration of the whole 1950s/60s era and 'kustom kulture' as well, with participants getting into the fashions, hairstyles and music of the era. Away from the cars, there was live music, trade stalls, the Low Brow art show, Tiki bar and a car boot sale for entrants.
If you're thinking about attending next year's Chopped, I would highly recommend it. Why not make a weekend of it, as there is the opportunity to camp on site. If you're thinking of entering your ride in Chopped, the rules are simple - pre-1965 traditional style rods and customs only. No billet wheels or accessories. No I.F.S on fenderless cars. Race cars are welcome. For bikes, it's traditional style American and British bobbers and choppers only.
