Classic Holdens added to Shannons Sydney auction
The newest of the three is a very collectable 1985 Holden VK Commodore Group 'A' SS sedan whose odometer is showing less than 32,000km.
With the move in Australia to the International Group A touring car regulations in 1985, Holden were forced to de-stroke their V8 engine from 5044cc to 4979cc and produce at least 500 examples in order to qualify for the new category. Peter Brock's Holden Dealer Team carried out the work and the example being auctioned is No 485 of the 500 built.
This particular example has been part of a private collection and its odometer is showing just 31,197km, with Shannons told the engine was rebuilt just 1,000km ago by Peter Brock's renowned engine builder Neill Burns.
Regarded by many as the most desirable Brock Commodore, the car presents in very good condition throughout , with Shannons expecting both to factor in an estimated $84,000-$92,000 sale price.
For early Holden enthusiasts, there is a very tidy 1951 Holden 'FX' utility presented in substantially original condition. One of 120,000 'FX' variants produced between November 1948 and September 1953, this increasingly rare early Holden 'FX' variant has been repainted in period green at some point while the interior appears to be substantially untouched, with a fabulous patina.
Offered with a tonneau cover, this Holden would be a fine addition to any collection at its expected selling range of $26,000-$30,000.
Finally, for bargain hunters and collectors, there is a 'time-warp' 1955 Holden FJ Standard sedan that is being offered for sale with 'no reserve', with an expected guiding range of $12,000-$16,000.
A country car for much of its life, this great survivor has been in the same ownership for the past 35 years and has a fantastic time-warp feel. Repainted in its period cream colour at some stage, Shannons say the car presents well both inside and out and appears to have escaped modifications.
It comes with some spares (including some hard to find items like a grille and hubcaps) and was last registered (in NSW) in June.
