Classic Holdens consigned for Shannons Autumn auction
The auction, which takes place on May 5, has a pair of tidy No Reserve classics for starters: a very desirable 1967 Holden HR Premier ($10,000-$15,000 guiding range) and a 'Brock Replica' 1985 Holden VK Commodore ($6,000-$10,000 guiding range).
While these may prove to be the bargains of the Holden offerings, the cream of the consignments is a substantially unmodified 1974 LH Torana SL/R 5000 sedan, presented in the great period colour combination of Sunburst Gold Metallic with Black vinyl interior.
This rare survivor of Holden's great 1970s Aussie Muscle Car era was previously owned by a West Australian collector before coming into the present owner's hands. Used sparingly in recent years, the very tidy SL/R 5000 presents as a substantially unmodified example other than a few bolt-on performance parts.
It is being sold with a verification letter from Holden and is expected to sell in the $46,000-$54,000 range because of its provenance and largely original condition.
Two rare one-owner HQ Holdens are also set to excite collectors in the auction. The first is a very original, unmolested 1971 LS Monaro coupe with a 253 V8 and in lovely condition throughout, while the other is a well-presented 1972 Holden HQ Premier 308 V8 Station Wagon.
The 'time warp' Monaro has lived in Northern Victoria all its life with no notable modifications other than a conversion to LP Gas in 1982. The car has avoided all the usual 'street machine' modifications over the years and even retains its original hubcaps and vinyl roof.
Shannons expect keen bidding for the Monaro in the $20,000-$25,000 range, while the Premier Station Wagon has a guiding range of $10,000-$14,000.
The other Holden in the auction is a 1972 Holden HQ 'Modified' utility with a 402-cid V8 that Shannons expect to sell for $15,000-$20,000.
Shannons' Melbourne Autumn Classic auction takes place at Shannons Melbourne auction rooms, 321 Warrigal Road, Cheltenham, on Monday, March 5, with the first lot scheduled to cross the blocks at 7:00pm.
