Classic Jags consigned for Shannons Sydney Spring Auction

The E-type has been in the vendor's hands of two fastidious owners for the past 30 years - the vendor's for the past 10 - and comes with a certificate of authenticity from the Jaguar Heritage Trust detailing its original specifications.

 

The four-speed manual coupe was delivered new in Opalescent Sand Beige with Light Tan leather trim through Brysons of Sydney in September 1965. It has since been repainted to a very high standard in Dark Blue, while recent mechanical work has included major work on its engine, clutch, brakes and rear suspension.

 

It is expected to sell in the $100,000-$130,000 range on November 9.

 

The 'no reserve' Old English White 1955 Jaguar XK140 Fixed Head Coupe with wire wheels is similar to the Ivory with red leather XK140 FHC that sold for $125,000 at Shannons recent Melbourne Spring Auction.

 

It was purchased in Sydney about 30 years ago by the vendor, a long-term Jaguar enthusiast, who treated it to a body and interior restoration around 2000.

 

Around the same time, the Jaguar's 3.4 litre double overhead camshaft engine was rebuilt and its brakes were upgraded with the fitting of Jaguar Mark 9 front discs.

 

According to its vendor, the XK140 has covered only about 1,000 miles since this work was completed and has had with very little use over the past four years due to his illness.

 

Shannons are estimating that the Jaguar will sell in the $80,000-$90,000 guiding range, but given increasing values of early XK Jaguars on the world market, this could prove to be conservative.

 

There are two other 'no reserve' Jaguar lots in Shannons November 9 Sydney Auction - a beautifully-presented Sage Green with tan leather interior 1984 XJ6 Series III Saloon ($10,000 - $14,000), while a European-style black and white number plate 'N XK' ($3,000-$5,000) may prove irresistible, as it incurs no annual or on-going fees charged by the RMS in NSW.
