Classics 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air coupe
Meet ‘Belle’ - the latest car available under the Classics Retro Rewards membership program. Fully rebuilt for the new millennium, this 1955 Chevy Bel Air Sports Coupe retains her demure 1950s looks. That means Belle combines the best of both words – classic curves and heaps of chrome, with modern performance and reliability.
Finished in stunning white-over-blue, Belle retains her Bel Air trim (the top-of-the-line Chevy for ’55) inside and out, but a conversion to RHD makes her safer on Aussie roads. She rolls on a set of 15-inch Cragar S/S alloys with modern Michelin radials, but that stance shows she can get up and dance.
Bigger Heart, Stronger Bones
Under the bonnet, Belle is rocking a 502ci Chevy crate motor, fitted with GM Performance heads, a serpentine belt kit, Holley carb, MSD ignition and a custom twin-exit exhaust. To ensure trouble-free cruising in Aussie summers, the radiator’s been upsized and boosted by twin thermo fans.
The Big Block V8 is hooked up to a Turbo 400 automatic transmission and nine-inch LSD.
Under her skirt, Belle has independent front suspension and a triangulated four-link rear as part of an upgrade package that also includes power steering, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes and an electric handbrake.
New Blues
In the cabin, Belle replicates the two-tone paint treatment from outside, but adds a Hurst Pro-Matic 2 shifter, Dakota Digital gauge set and reproduction 12-inch steering wheel. There are power windows for convenience, an alarm for security and seat belts for safety.
Belle’s also had aftermarket air conditioning and a modern sound system fitted, but both are subtly incorporated, so as not to spoil the Happy Days vibe inside.
