CLASSICS - 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1
WIN THIS CAR
Valued at $160,000

Just as Gone in 60 Seconds created all-new interest in the 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, the John Wick franchise has done the same for the 1969 Mustang Mach 1. But as with John Wick the man, his Mustang is complex, with much more going on than what’s seen on the surface.
A car inspired by the one in John Wick could be yours, thanks to Classics Retro Rewards.

Wick . . . and Trick
Most lore on the John Wick Mustang centres around the fact that, while the car is identified as a 1969 Boss 429 in the movie, it’s actually a Mach 1.
In short, the Mach 1 was a big hit for Ford in 1969, with more than 72,000 sold, while Boss 429 production totalled just 859 that year. For the John Wick production team, that meant Mach 1s were easier to find and much more affordable.
From the factory, the standard Mach 1 drivetrain was a 351 V8 and three-speed manual, but the 428 Cobra Jet and a four-speed manual were optional. Racing mirrors, a chin spoiler and rear wing were all part of the Mach 1 spec, while choosing the 428 meant the functional ‘shaker’ bonnet scoop and suspension upgrades, too.

Subtle Style
Strong, but subtle, like John Wick in a sharp suit, this 1969 Mustang Mach 1 means business. Recently restored, it’s rocking the desirable 428 with Ram Air (factory fitted) and four-speed, while Mach 1 striping and 17-inch US Mags ‘Rambler’ alloys complement the dark Gunmetal Grey metallic paint.
Inside, there’s authentic Mach 1 trim, including high-back bucket seats in black vinyl, a woodrim steering wheel, and woodgrain applique on the dash, doors and centre console. Air con, power steering and a right-hand drive conversion provides comfort and practicality.
