Already desirable in factory spec, this classic hardtop has been enhanced under the bonnet to hit harder than a Category 5 cyclone.

Fully restored and seriously enhanced, this XA GT brings the thunder with a Windsor 440ci V8 that combines a Dart Sportsman block with a Callies crank, Comp Cams solid roller cam, Compstar H-beam rods, Diamond pistons and an Edelbrock Super Jnr intake manifold. FiTech EFI controls the power for this storm front, which is rated at 700hp.
The transmission has been toughened to suit, with a Tremec TKO 600 five-speed manual connected to a Detroit TrueTrac nine-inch diff.
Boyds, Bars and Brakes
A set of staggered, 18-inch Boyd Coddington Espada alloys keep Purple Thunder rolling straight and true, aided by big sway bars and air shocks front and rear. Wilwood calipers on drilled and slotted disc brakes all round ensures the storm can be weathered, with grippy Bridgestone Potenza tyres completing the package.
Eye of the Storm
Looking inside Purple Thunder, all-new white vinyl trim has been fitted to the seats, doorcards and headlining, with a GT-style console between the front buckets. Along with the fresh trim, there’s a woodrim steering wheel and Tremec shifter for the six-speed manual, with a factory gauge set ahead of the driver. And when the weather allows, a wind-back sunroof lets the sunshine in.
