With the Christmas season upon us, an awesome Aussie Falcon would make the ultimate gift, right? Just such a car could be yours, not from Santa, but the jolly folks at Classics Retro Rewards. Already a car with the lot, this 1974 XB hardtop’s white paint and red trim are Christmas colours, too!
Sunshine State Selection
Known as ‘FAT XB’, this hardtop is a magazine feature car and multiple award winner. Put together by Pat’s Pro Restos in Queensland, with interior trimming by Elite Interiors, and an engine from TOCA Performance, FAT XB took around 3,000 hours to build, but all that time was worth it.
Clevo and C4
Powering FAT XB is a built 383 Cleveland V8, with a Scat crank and rods, SRP pistons, Isky solid lifters, ported CHI heads and a BLP Racing carby on a laundry list of quality gear. While this car was made to cruise, the 611hp (455kW) from the tough Clevo means it can stomp when needed. A strengthened C4 auto with a 5200rpm torque converter and Altra 9 nine-inch diff completes the driveline.
A combination of Koni shocks and Lovells springs keeps the car planted, with a sharper (16:1) steering ratio and disc brakes with Wilwood four-piston calipers built in, while beefy 18x7 and 18x11.5 American Legend alloys suit FAT XB’s name!
Snow White, Red Roo
This XB’s flawless body is finished in House of Kolor White, accented with Plymouth GTX-style stripes in Galaxy Grey and red pinstriping that extends to the lower flanks.
Inside, the seats are upholstered in bold red kangaroo hide, with this supple but strong leather also trimming the dash, doorcards and parcel shelf. A velour headlining and premium Mercedes carpets keep the colour theme going, with a B&M shifter and Classic Instruments set (including some auxiliary gauges) among the few deviations from the factory look inside.
Showtime
Since its debut at Meguiar’s MotorEx in 2017, FAT XB has been a showstopper on the show circuit, gathering awards that include gold for both Paintwork and Bodywork, silver for Design & Execution and Elite Top Bodywork winner at the Red Centre Nats
