Classics by the Coast 2017
Since the first Classics by the Coast was held in 1999, this biennial display of classic cars and bikes has increased in size, prominence and popularity.
Organised by the All Classic Motor Club Central Queensland Inc., this year’s 10th Anniversary event, held at Bell Park in Emu Park (south of Yeppoon) on 28 May, cemented its position as the premier classic car event for Central Queensland, with 380 magnificent classic vehicles turned out for display, while an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 visitors turned up to see them.
Variety Plus
Mouthwatering classics on show included American muscle cars, Holdens from the ’50s through to the ’80s, pre-war vintage machines and hot rods, Japanese rarities and English classics, as well as a Ferrari Testarossa from the ’80s, classic trucks and even a Greyhound bus!
A selection of American, British and Japanese motorcycles were also on show, providing an outstanding support act to the four-wheel machines.
This year’s event surpassed all expectations, with many seasoned displayers and visitors commenting that it was not only the best car display in Central Queensland, but all of Queensland!
It wasn’t only motoring enthusiasts singing the praises, either. The Queensland Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC), the major recipient of funds raised on the day, were gobsmacked that this year’s 10th Anniversary event raised enough funds to purchase two cars (one new and one demonstrator) for their ‘Braking The Cycle’ initiative that mentors young people on how to become skilled and safe drivers.
Both the event organisers and PCYC beneficiaries are proud that an event celebrating classic motoring heritage has provided such a valuable legacy for the drivers of tomorrow.
But this year’s event wasn’t just about classic cars and bikes. . . .
Classic Culture
Classics by the Coast 2017 also featured rock ‘n’ roll entertainment by Swing-A-Billy Ray and a sub-event called ‘Fashions By The Coast’, which proved to be a great addition to the show.
The Lindy Charm School, Atomic Beauty and Pegs Pinups provided a fun range of fashions, makeup and retro style techniques.
More than a dozen ladies – young and young at heart - took part in the fashion parade, with some great vintage looks and fine style on display.
The laid back, picnic atmosphere of Classics by the Coast also includes trade displays, a great range of food and drink, plus amusements and rides for the kids.
The signature event for the All Classic Motor Club CQ Inc., 2017’s Classics by the Coast attracted visitors from all over Queensland, providing a great day out for all-comers and raising much needed funds for a worthy community cause in the PCYC.
Major sponsors for Classics by the Coast 2017 included The Engine Centre - Rockhampton, Livingstone Shire Council, Southern Cross Austereo and Repco.
