Corvette makes $101K at Shannons Sydney auction
The 1960 Corvette, a former trophy-winner, arrived in Australia from the US in 2011. A matching numbers example, the LHD Corvette was offered with receipts for maintenance from the past few years totalling $30,000.
Presented in stunning condition in red with white scallops and a red vinyl interior, the Corvette had been restored in the US, and was also fitted with the model's desirable four-speed manual gearbox.
Because of its condition, collectability and charisma, Shannons expected it to sell in the $90,000-$105,000 range, so the $101K achieved was at the high end of this estimate.
Watched by a record number of enthusiasts, thanks to the Sydney debut of Shannons live streaming, the Corvette's sale capped off a strong result that saw 80 per cent of all vehicles sell, with eleven of that total going to Online Bidders.
Other good sellers from this auction included a very original, low-mileage 1988 Ferrari Testarossa , which brought $96,000 after a spirited bidding duel, an increasingly collectable 1964 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Cabriolet, which sold for $55,000, while a 1963 Mercedes-Benz 'Pagoda series' 230SL - both from private collections - sold for $50,000.
