Desirable collectables going to auction
Burns & Co. Auctioneers and Valuers have secured a real treasure trove of collectables for a special Collectors’ Auction scheduled for 21 March.
From petrol bowsers to oil bottle racks, vintage tin signs, neon signs, dodgem cars, vintage telephones, bakelite radios, scale models, vending machines and even a telephone box, there’s everything you need to fit out the ultimate man cave - all at the one auction!
Signs Old and New
For tin sign afficionados, there are Castrol, Mobil and Shell on offer, some painted, some enamelled, while the neon signs are a mix of original and reproduction, including some very cool ‘Americana’ neons for the likes of Sinclair, Texaco, Red Crown, Philips 66 and Polly gasoline.
For Chrysler enthusiasts, a particular highlight amongst the neons is a genuine Mopar sign, while a generic ‘Used Cars’ neon would be a cool feature in any garage.
There’s also a large-scale Goodyear sign up for grabs, while outside of the auto arena, other signs cover products as diverse as Coca Cola, Kodak film and milking machines!
Fuel and Oil
When it comes to petroliana, there are some real gems in this auction, including C1920s handcrank-style petrol bowsers and complementary globes for the likes of Shell and C.O.R.
Reproduction oil bottle display racks for Polly, Gilmore, Shell and Mobiloil are also up for grabs, along with a genuine BP Energol oil dispenser cabinet and Mobil Laurel kerosene tin.
Adding a local flavour that’s always popular with collectors are Neptune, Veedol and Golden Fleece oil tins, as well as a Golden Fleece churn and Ampol funnel.
A particular highlight in this section is the four-outlet Shell oil dispenser, while a Ford-branded auto transmission fluid tin should be popular with Blue Oval collectors. A set of C1940s Ford windscreen washer solution and upholstery cleaner glass bottles are also available.
Also Available
Outside of the automotive arena, some of the other cool consignments in the 21 March Collectors’ Auction include Kriesler ‘beehive’ and AWA Radiola bakelite radios, Tarax soft drink vending machines, Cottee’s and Peters branded ice chests, a foosball table, vintage lanterns and even a cream separator!
