Display themes announced for 2024 Historic Winton
Historic Winton, the annual all-historic race meeting at Winton Motor Raceway in regional Victoria, has announced the anniversary display themes for this year’s 47th edition of the event that will be held on the weekend of 25 – 26 May.
Multiple marque and model anniversaries are being recognised this year, starting with 120 years of Rolls-Royce and Rover, 110 years of Dodge and 100 years of the Chrysler Six, Bugatti Type 35 and MG Supersport. Additionally, 2024 marks the 90th anniversary for several Austin 7 model variants, Citroen’s Traction Avant and the original, Australian-made Ford ute.
Models turning 70 this year include the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint, Austin Cambridge, Mercedes 300SL and Nash Metropolitan, while the Volkswagen Club of Victoria also turns 70 this year. Iconic models like the Ford Mustang and Porsche 911 turn 60 in 2024, with the Lamborghini Countach and Fiat 131 marking their 50th Anniversary this year. There are multiple motorcycle marque and model anniversaries this year, too.
Owners of all anniversary marques and models (see historicwinton.org for the full list) are invited to bring their vehicle to Historic Winton for the paddock display. Your vehicle could also be selected to take part in the Sunday track parade.
On track, Historic Winton presents a packed programme of racing across the weekend. Competition classes include Group S, Group J, K & Lb, Formula Ford, Group N, Regularity, Group M & O Sports & Racing and Q & R Sports & Racing, while the Group N Regularity event that was such a big hit in 2023 is on again this year.
“The Tin Tops (touring cars from pre-1958 to 1972) will be amongst 400-odd cars and motorbikes competing at Historic Winton,” said Austin 7 Club President, Len Kerwood. “Vehicles from the beginning of motoring to the mid-1980s will grace the track.”
This year will also see a special race for Ford Cortinas – the Cortina Challenge - to mark the 60th Anniversary of the model's presence in Australian motorsport.
Presented by the Austin 7 Club, Inc., and the Historic Motorcycle Racing Association of Victoria, the 47th edition of Historic Winton will take place at Winton Motor Raceway (10km north-east of Benalla) on the weekend of 25 - 26 May, 2024.
