Double Tap – WIN THESE MUSTANGS
The chance to win one ‘Bullitt’ Mustang is a good thing, but when two are up for grabs, it’s even better!
Earlier this year, Young Veterans, the Australian veterans’ support charity, raffled off a 1968 Dodge Charger inspired by the ‘bad guys’ car that featured in the epic chase scene from Bullitt.
Now, there’s the chance to win a car inspired by the other half of the chase from that famous 1968 film, as Young Veterans are raffling a 1967 Ford Mustang fastback that’s in the style of the movie car.
Young Veterans have upped the ante with this raffle, as there’s a second Mustang to win, too. This unit’s a modern homage in the form of the official Ford Mustang Bullitt limited-edition that was released in Australia in RHD form in 2019.
The 1967 Bullitt tribute is the first prize, with the 2019 Bullitt as a second prize in the ‘Classic and Modern Mustang Raffle’. Tickets are just $25 each and there are a bunch of supplementary prizes on offer.
FIRST PRIZE – 1967 Ford Mustang fastback – Bullitt tribute
The main prize is a pretty hot ride in its own right, but the fact it pays tribute to the Mustang that Steve McQueen thrashed in Bullitt makes it even hotter!
Based on a 1967-model Mustang (a year earlier than the movie car), the first prize car has a 289 V8 and C4 automatic, so it may not be able to outpace McQueen’s GT 390 from Bullitt, but it’ll still be pretty handy when the right foot gets heavy.
Along with the auto trans, the inclusion of power steering, air conditioning and disc front brakes makes this a comfortable and safe cruiser.
The Bullitt tributes start with the same Highland Green paint as the movie car, along with some selective de-badging. It’s well-known that the movie car had all its Ford and Mustang badging removed before filming. The branded fuel filler cap was painted over, too.
While this tribute car retains pony emblems at the rear, as well as MUSTANG identification on the bootlid, other badging has been removed, including the ‘corral’ grille badge.
Continuing the Bullitt lookalike theme is a set American Racing five-spoke alloys, just like the wheels on the movie car.
Inside, a wood rimmed GT steering wheel has been fitted (NOTE: This car is left-hand drive), with the finishing touch being BULLITT lettering on the passenger side dash.
Presenting in exceptional condition, this car has been valued at $150,000.
SECOND PRIZE – 2019 Ford Mustang fastback – Bullitt limited-edition
We can thank Australia’s appetite for the Mustang for receiving a batch of the Bullitt limited edition from 2018, which was actually the third such tribute Ford offered. The 2018 release was in honour of Bullitt’s 50th Anniversary, with the previous Bullitt editions released in 2001 and 2008.
Although the anniversary was in 2018, most locally-delivered Bullitts arrived here in 2019, like the second prize car in this raffle.
Based on the 5.0-litre V8 Mustang GT, the Bullitt took that already potent package and added both mechanical and cosmetic changes.
Starting with the mechanical, a Shelby GT350 intake manifold, 87mm throttle bodies, cold-air intake, recalibrated ECU and other tweaks resulted in an additional 6kW for a new maximum of 345kW, while peak torque remained unchanged at 556Nm.
The exhaust was revised for a more aggressive note, while MagneRide adaptive dampers and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres were standard.
On the cosmetic side of things, Dark Highland Green paint was common to all MY18/19 Bullitts, as were 19-inch Torq-Thrust alloys, a model-specific Bullitt badge at the rear and deleted grille badge.
In the cabin, a cue-ball shifter for the six-speed manual was added, along with green contrast stitching and subtle Bullitt badging.
Of the 700 Bullitt tributes allocated for Australia, almost all sold out before local deliveries officially commenced.
In near-new condition, with only 4,178km on the odometer, the 2019 Bullitt being raffled is valued at $82,000.
Young Vets have got you Covered
The winner of each car will have the cost of delivering the vehicle and transfer duty covered by Young Veterans. Additionally, 12 months’ registration and 12 months’ comprehensive insurance is included with each car, so all the winner needs to do is jump in and drive!

About Young Veterans
Young Veterans Australia was founded in 2012 to address the lack of support for our recent veterans – heroes who have served our country in both peace and war. Run entirely by volunteers, Young Veterans seeks to empower former ADF personnel and enable those suffering from anxiety, PTSD and depression to transition back to everyday life.
The charity has set out to enrich the lives of Australia’s military veterans, reconnecting them with their communities through active and social events. Created by Young Veterans, these events and programmes have inspired former ADF personnel to think outside the box of what is possible in civilian life, re-engage with society and participate in positive events that both challenge and rehabilitate.
