Ferrari Dino sells for $522K in Sydney
The Dino was one of the last RHD GT coupes imported into Australia when new, and had been well maintained by four previous owners, with the consignor owning the car since 1984.
Repainted in its original metallic green during its most recent ownership, the Dino had also been retrimmed in leather, replacing the vinyl upholstery the car wore when new. The 2.4-litre V6 engine was refurbished in 2006, with the 5-speed manual gearbox rebuilt this past June.
The Dino had been expected to sell in the $260,000-$320,000 bracket, but international interest saw it sail past that number before it came down to a battle between two floor bidders in Sydney that resulted in the record price.
Overall sales from this auction topped $1.9million, with a 91 percent clearance rate. This included the 1978 VB Commodore "HDT #001" prototype of the Brock VC Commodores, which sold for $125,000.
