Ferrari wins 2014 Bathurst 12 Hour
The Maranello driver lineup consisted of Peter Edwards, ex-F1 driver Mika Salo and two men with abundant Bathurst experience - John Bowe and Craig Lowndes.
The Erebus Motorsport Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 car, driven by last year's winner, Bernd Schneider as lead driver, qualified on pole, and led for almost two thirds of the race. A poor pitstop on lap 194 opened the door for the Darrell Lea/VIP Holdings McLaren MP4-12C to take the lead, before the Maranello Ferrari muscled its way into the lead, followed by the second Erebus SLS AMG.
With 15 minutes remaining, a crash at the top of the mountain brought the safety car, which bunched up the field ahead of a final sprint for the five cars on the lead lap.
Despite the best efforts of Max Buhk in the HTP Motorsport SLS AMG GT3, Craig Lowndes showed his skill and Mt Panorama experience to hold off the challenge and claim victory after 12 hours by 0.4 seconds.
Third was the Erebus SLS AMG driven by Will Davison, closely followed by Shane van Gisbergen in the Darrell Lea/VIP Holdings McLaren MP4-12C.
