Ford wins Supercars Manufacturers’ Championship
At the Century Batteries Ipswich Superspint in July, Shell V-Power Racing’s Scott McLaughlin won the second race of the round; the 17th win for a Mustang to gave Ford an unassailable lead in the manufacturers’ title.
Back in March at the Adelaide 500, the Mustang won on debut and continued that form at the support races for the F1 Grand Prix form in Melbourne. It was only in Round 3, the Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint, that the Mustang’s winning streak was broken.
Since then, Mustangs have won both races at the Phillip Island, Barbagallo, Winton and Hidden Valley rounds, with single wins also at Townsville and Queensland Raceway.
Of those 17 race wins, 16 have been delivered by Scott McLaughlin of Shell V-Power Racing (aka DJR Team Penske). The other was by his team mate, Fabian Coulthard.
As well as the race wins, multiple podium finishes from teams running Mustangs contributed to the Manufacturers’ title. Those other teams include Milwaukee Racing (run by 23Red Racing), Monster Energy Racing, The Bottle-O Racing Team and Supercheap Auto Racing, which are all run by Tickford Racing.
Homologated for the 2019 series through a partnership between Ford and Ford Performance, the Mustangs campaigned by Shell V-Power Racing, 23Red Racing and Tickford Racing in the Australian Supercars Championship are part of a global Mustang racing programme that includes NASCAR, GT4 and other categories.
