High performance Pontiacs to be auctioned in USA
Of the pair, the more intriguing is a rare 1957 Bonneville convertible. What makes this car particularly rare is that it's been factory-fitted with fuel injection. For 1957, only 630 Bonneville convertibles were produced with the 347-cid, 315-hp Strato-Streak fuel-injected V8.
Lavishly-appointed, the Bonneville also features GM's Starto-Flight Hydramatic transmission, cowl vent, whitewall tyres, deluxe steerign wheel, Wonderbar radio, dash clock and more. The Bonneville was also fitted with all the power options from the factory: convertible top; eight-way front seat; windows; antenna; steering; and brakes.
Recently subject to a complete, ground-up restoration, the all-the-fruit '57 Bonneville is expected to make US$200,000 - US$250,000 at the Auburn auction.
The second performance Pontiac of interest is one more muscle car fans will be familiar with, in the form of a 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge. Finished in the uncommon Starlight Black over black interior combo, the Judge has a 400ci, 370hp Ram Air IV V8, mated to a Muncie M20 4-spped manual.
In addition to the Ram Air induction, factory-fitted options on this car include dual exhausts with reverse-flow mufflers and chrome tips, chrome rocker covers, black-painted grille, power steering & disc brakes, remote-adjustable rear view mirror, AM/FM stereo, tint glass and Judge badging & graphics.
Completely restored to correct factory specs, including the desirable Ram Air IV-correct carburettor and distributor, the Judge GTO has been documented by the Pontiac Historical Society and expected to sell for US$115,000 - US$145,000.
In addition to these two, other Pontiacs consigned for the Auburn Spring Auction include a pair of 1979 Trans Ams, an immaculately-restored 1947 Torpedo convertible, 1960 Catalina Sport Coupe, and 1950 Streamliner Deluxe, amongst others.
Another lot of interest is a rare Canadian 'Acadian' coupe. A rebadged and differently-trimmed Chevrolet Nova, the Acadian was a Pontiac exclusive to the Canadian market and thus, rarely seen outside it. This one has been fitted with a 454ci V8 bored out to 525 cubes and fitted with Keith Black pistons, Dart aluminium heads, steel stroker crank and solid lifter camshaft, roller rockers, Flowmaster dual exhaust and more. According to the auction listing, this package delivers 432hp, driven through a TH400 transmission and 12-bolt diff to 15-inch Cragar SS wheels and drag-spec radials.
