Holdens rule at Burns & Co October Auction

The October edition of Burns & Co’s Muscle, Classic & Collectable Car & Motorcycle Auction saw 106 lots go under the hammer, with massive bidding interest and a final clearance rate of over 90 per cent. In terms of results, Holdens led the way, including HSV and HDT vehicles, with the top sellers all of GM-H origin.

Held over three nights – 6, 7 and 8 October - there were plenty of desirable lots on display between the two Burns & Co. headquarters in Bayswater, Victoria and Beresfield, NSW. Night 1 had an Aussie theme, with a large number of highly collectable Holden and Ford vehicles going under the hammer. Night 2 showcased some of the best muscle and classic vehicles on offer from outside of Australia, while every lot on the final night sold, putting the exclamation point on a very successful auction.

The car that had everyone’s attention on Night 1 was a 1972 Holden HQ Monaro GTS 308 coupe. With original Chateau Mauve paint, an original interior and only 15,050 genuine miles, this matching-numbers classic was offered unreserved and sold for $232,438; the highest price of the entire three-night auction. A 2017 Holden HSV GTS-R Maloo sold for a princely $164,850, with a 1985 HDT VK Commodore Group 3 selling for $145,066 and a 2002 HSV GTS coupe going for $117,042 (all prices include buyer’s premium)

A 1970 HG Monaro, in the Pro Street style with a supercharged LS3 V8, bespoke exhaust, built T400 auto, Wilwood brakes, Weld wheels and a full custom interior sold after the auction for a very impressive $230,790.

Classic Aussie Fords included a 1970 XY Falcon GT tribute and a genuine 1972 XA Falcon GT sedan, both of which sold for more than $100,000, while an XW Falcon GT tribute made $64,290 (incl. buyer’s premium).
