Honda Aus excited about brand's return to Formula 1
With Fernando Alonso departing from Ferrari to join Jenson Button at McLaren, much is expected of the revamped team in 2015, as Honda-powered McLarens won a total of eight Formula 1 driver's and constructor's world championships between 1988 and 1992.
Honda's most recent F1 association started with an engine supply deal for the BAR team from 2000, before they took over that squad in 2006. After running under the 'Honda Racing F1 Team' banner for three seasons, Honda sold the team to Ross Brawn in early 2009, who rebranded it Brawn GP, using Mercedes-Benz engines.
Honda Australia are excited to be a part of the re-uniting of McLaren and Honda, and will celebrate with a big presence at Albert Park come March. Honda Australia Director, Stephen Collins, said Honda's return to F1 provided the local arm of the company the opportunity to remind Australians of Honda's motorsport heritage and to forge a new era.
"Since the news that Honda would be returning to F1 was announced, the Honda family in Australia has been incredibly excited and supportive," Collins said. "The Honda Australia team in Melbourne has been working with our dealer network to ensure our customers get the most from our return to the pinnacle of motorsport and we are thrilled that the first race is on home soil.
"We are confident the first race of the 2015 season in Melbourne will provide the perfect opportunity to showcase some of the exciting product we have planned for release in Australia."
That 'product' will include the return of the NSX supercar.
