Hyundai reveal more SEMA customs
ARK Performance, a core Hyundai SEMA partner in recent years, has developed a new 'Legato Concept' based on the Genesis Coupe, while John Pangilinan (JP), another Hyundai collaborator, will develop a striking custom Atlantis Blue JP Edition Genesis Coupe.
ARK Performance - Legato Concept
"Legato" is an Italian musical term meaning "tied together," conveying what ARK and Hyundai say is a seamless integration of exotic design, tuned performance and luxury coupe interior ambience.
Exterior
From the outside, the Legato Concept takes the design themes of the production Genesis Coupe and expands them to concept car levels, while retaining the integrity of the original design. The body treatment includes front and rear bumpers, side skirts, boot lid and wide-body cues, for a truly unique and integrated exotic performance look, finished in a racing silver exterior colour.
Performance
While the Legato exterior sends a powerful message, the performance tuning under the hood and wheel arches more than backs it up.
The production-based Hyundai 3.8-litre Lambda V6 engine is stroked to 4.0-litres for 298 kW and 575 Nm. Inside the block, a Brian Crower (BC) 4.0 Stroker Kit with JE Pistons and BC 4340 crankshaft, connecting rods, and ARK oil cooler ensure maximum output with superior durability. An ARK intake system and headers enhance engine breathing at high rpm, while a lightweight pulley kit reduces parasitic power losses from ancillary equipment. For power delivery, an ARK dual-mass flywheel and carbon clutch kit ensure efficient power transfer to the pavement.
With the Legato concept at speed, an ARK DT-P coil-over suspension system coupled with lightweight Rays Engineering G25 wheels and Nitto NT05 tyres ensure outstanding dynamic grip, while ARK carbon brake pads add fade resistance and stopping power.
Interior
The Legato interior is a complete luxury performance concept including Takata Drift Pro LE seats, AiM Sports Strada GT steering wheel, and digital gauge cluster. A Rockford Fosgate premium sound system provides backup entertainment whenever the exhaust note is at less than full song.

"ARK Performance has taken this original concept and expanded its appeal to the most demanding premium coupe owners at a whole new level."
John Pangilinan - Atlantis Blue JP Edition Genesis Coupe
John Pangilinan is known in the tuner community for selecting retina-bending colour themes for his Hyundai SEMA concepts, and this latest Genesis Coupe is sure to bolster his reputation even further.
"John Pangilinan is really a creative genius in colour development, especially in his ability to blend colour with specific vehicle concepts like the JP Edition Genesis Coupe," said Scott Margason, Director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. "We're excited to see the final concept turning heads in our booth at the SEMA show."
Powertrain and chassis
Within the engine bay, Pangilinan made the modifications many entry-level tuners choose for the most cost-effective power gains, such as an AEM cold air intake, ARK Performance exhaust, turbo downpipe, and friction-reducing Lucas Oil.
To achieve perfect ride height and body-to-wheel balance, he installed KW Variant 3 coil-overs, Whiteline sway bars, and an ARK Performance strut bar.
Filling the wheel wells are 19-inch MORR VS52 concave mono-forged wheels in mystic black, with Toyo Proxes T1R 275/30 ZR19 front and 315/25 ZR19 rear tyres. Muteki SR35 lug nuts hold it all together. Brakes are Brembo Gran Turismo with oversized 15-inch calipers.
Exterior design
Emphasising the rear-drive Genesis Coupe proportions are staggered, ultra-wide custom metal fender flares from TS Designs, designed by Jon Sibal. Covering the freshly-shaped metal is brilliant BASF Atlantic Blue Metallic paint applied by Auto Explosion, with custom graphics created by S&A Design.
For aero management, an APR carbon-fibre splitter and Seibon carbon-fibre side and rear lip kits have been fitted. Custom headlights with V-LEDS are from The Retrofit Source and Retrofit House.
Interior design and entertainment
Inside the JP Edition cabin, Pangilinan chose RECARO Cross Sportster seats with a custom Katzkin suede and smooth leather treatment. Holding the driver and passenger in place are Takata Drift III harnesses fixed to a custom harness bar complete with a mounted GoPro Hero 3 video camera.
