Maserati release 'Ghibli Sport' special edition
Only 60 units of this Ghibli-based model will come to Australia, with the new arrival defined by the addition of the 'Maserati Carbon Pack' of carbon fibre trim for the mirrors, B-pillar, door handles, as well as a carbon fibre rear spoiler.
Inside, the full leather trim for the front sports seats is augmented by additional leather throughout the interior, including a leather-trimmed sports steering wheel. Inox Sports pedals are also fitted.
Mechanically, the Ghibli Sport features a Dual Cast Braking System, which Maserati says offers a "new level" of stopping power, but the rest of the running gear is unchanged.
That means a 257kW "Ferrari version" of the Ghibli's standard turbocharged V6, matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This combination can dispatch the 0-100 km/h dash in 5.5 seconds and continue to a top speed of 267km/h. Combined fuel consumption is listed at 8.9lt/100km.
"The Maserati Ghibli is the epitome of what a sports saloon should be with its unique blend of performance, Italian style and design excellence allied to the exclusivity that comes with owning a Maserati," says Glen Sealey, Chief Operating Officer of Maserati Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
"With the Ghibli Sport, the performance and style of the Ghibli is made more overt and it enables the driver to even more fully exploit the depth of ability and performance provided by the Ghibli. From the additional capability offered by the Dual Cast Braking System to being held in the ideal driving position by the Sports Seats while exploiting the Ghibli's remarkable levels of road holding and handling, the Ghibli Sport provides its owners a new level of exhilaration."
Available only until the end of June, 2017, or while stocks last, the limited edition Maserati Ghibli Sport is priced at $149,990 driveaway - a saving of up to $16,000 on the regular Ghibli with the same additional features.
