Massive McCarron auction this October
The collection of Charlie McCarron will go under the hammer through Burns & Co Auctioneers and Valuers on Saturday 1 October and Sunday 2 October at McCarron's former Holden dealership in Canowindra, NSW (approximately 60km west of Bathurst), as well as the nearby Canowindra showgrounds.
Charlie's Collection
McCarron, whose early-production black-with-red-trim Holden 48/215 previously featured in JUST CARS, started as the Holden dealer in Canowindra in 1959, and commenced his Holden-themed car collection in 1970. Over the decades that have followed the collection has grown, with plans to turn the dealership into a Holden museum when the total went beyond 50. For the October auction, more than 60 cars will be offered, most of which are in outstanding condition.
The collection includes that black 48/215 - the 46th bodied Holden and only showing 20,000 miles - and includes classic FE and FB models, HD sedan, wagon and Premier, a trio of HKs, a '72 LJ Torana XU-1, HQ Belmont panel van, ex-NRMA HJ panel van and '76 HJ Premier to name a few, most all of which are in very good to excellent condition.
Of the Commodore-era cars, there are a sextet of VB models, including two with the 309 pack and one with the 310 pack, numerous VC Commodores, including an '80-model VC SLE, four VH Commodores, the highlight of which is a VH 4.2 V8 4-speed in the rare Papaya Orange, as well as VN, VP, VX and VY Commodores.
Other Holdens of note included in the auction are a '96 VR HSV, '85 WB Statesman Deville, TD and TG Geminis, '85 Holden Shuttle van, '98 Vectra and even a pair of Barinas!
Beyond the cars, there's a bunch of Holden memorabilia, as well, including parts catalogues, dealership signage, NOS parts (including good condition grilles, headlight surrounds, seats, hubcaps, etc.) and more.
More than Holdens
Oddities from McCarron's collection include XD and XF Falcons, a Holden-bodied '37 Chevrolet roadster, '46 Vauxhall VX 4/90 and '65 Vauxhall Victor, '84 Ford Telstar, Peugeot 408 sedan, 1948 Armstrong Siddeley Typhoon and '59 Armstrong Siddeley sedan.
