Mid Winter Wander
'Our plan is to try and reproduce an event that's similar to the Bay to Birdwood in Adelaide. Not just a show and shine, but an assembly, then a drive together and then a show and shine. To share the passion as they say. Also to prove these beautiful machines actually do work!' Dan Bergquist, Organiser, Newcastle Restored Vehicle Club.
More than 700 drivers of veteran, vintage, street machines, hot rods, classic and highly desirable modern commercial cars will make their way from Glendale Shopping Centre to the Hunter Valley Gardens to showcase their pride and joy to all spectators. Some military vehicles and motorcycles will also be on display. Prior to the journey, an added display this year will be a "beauty parade" for cars named La Paradé de Elegance. This will take place at the Stockland Glendale start line at 8.00am. Following this, the 80km round trip for the vehicles, which will commence at 9.00am will see cars of all shapes and sizes form the largest convoy in NSW to the Gardens via Freemans Waterhole, Ellalong, Paxton, Bellbird and Cessnock where the cars will be displayed on the Hunter Valley Gardens Oval. Entertainment, food and wine stalls as well as children's activities such as face painting and a jumping castle; all set amongst a beautiful garden backdrop will ensure a great day out for the family.
"The Mid Winter Wander was a very popular day out for people of all ages last year. This year, it's even bigger and better and families will be able to enjoy an amazing spectacle of unusual and classic vehicles on display." says Kyle McKendry.
People from as far as Sydney, Tamworth, Port Macquarie and the Upper Hunter region will be taking part in what will be an impressive procession. Dan Bergquist from Newcastle Restored Vehicle Club says, "This is the only car convoy and display of its kind in NSW. Based on last year's success, its well on its way to becoming an annual event to be enjoyed by everyone in the Hunter region and beyond."
Cars on display will include T Model Fords from the 1920's, vintage Chevrolets, classic GT Fords and Cadillac's along with commercial trucks, ex military vehicles and a Golden Fleece Petrol Tanker. Vintage and veteran motorcycles will also be on show.
