New Mustang revealed in Sydney
Sydney was one of six cities on four continents to simultaneously unveil the new Mustang on December 5 (late evenign Australian time), with Sydney revealing a striking gunmetal grey convertible to the assembled media and special guests.
Actor Shane Jacobson and comedian Tommy Little MC'd the launch, with the all-new Mustang sharing space with examples from previous generations, including a classic first-gen convertible, fastback and Boss 302 muscle car, as well as a more recent Shelby GT500.
Available in fastback coupe and convertible body styles, the new Mustang will come to Australia in late 2014, in line with the local arm's shuttering of local manufacture in 2016. While three different engine options will be available, locally-delivered Mustangs will only be offered with the choice of a normally-aspirated 5.0-litre V8 or turbocharged 2.3-litre Ecoboost 4-cylinder engine.
Independent rear suspension, revised manual transmission, auto with paddle-shift controls, a stiffer, wider and lower body structure, and improved driver aids and technologies are other features of the new Mustang.
Australian-delivered Mustangs are expected to cost around the $45,000 mark (excluding ORCs) for the EcoBoost coupe, with V8-powered versions and convertibles adding premiums around $10K and up.
