One-off Lexus concept sells in US auction
Part of a large Texas collection, the 'EV' represented the vision of a Lexus from the year 2054, when the movie was set. Lexus was supposedly chosen for the concept car because Minority Report's director, Steven Spielberg, was using a Lexus SUV as his daily transport at the time. The extreme cab-forward design of the Lexus EV was a real standout and inspired similar designs in future movies. Finished as a rolling display piece only, and thus only offered on a bill of sale, the one-off Lexus concept surprised everyone by more than trebling its pre-sale estimate, eventually selling for US$101,790.
Many more classics, veterans and other cars and motorcycles of interest featured at the Bonhams auction, including a genuine Triumph Trophy motorcycle ridden by Fonzie in 'Happy Days' and a 1966 Triumph TR6 owned by singer K.D. Lang. For more details on these and other lots from Bonhams' 'Classic California Sale', go to www.bonhams.com
