Rare veteran to go on show at Motorclassica
The Panhard et Lavassor that will be competing for concours honours in the 'Antique, Veteran and Edwardian' class is an 1891 example, making it one of the oldest cars in existence.
Purchased by the local owner in 1984, the Panhard is believed to be the oldest car in Australia, the oldest outside Europe, and has been described as the seventh oldest car in existence.
At the time this car was built by the French duo of Rene Panhard and Emile Lavassor, their experiments in automobiles were barely a year old, and the automobile as we know it was only five years old.
Using licence-built copies of Daimler engines, the Panhard et Lavassor was notable for being the first automobile to feature the combination of a front-mounted engine and rear wheel drive.
