Record Sales for Suzuki
"Total sales for the year were 21,575; or more than 1500 above the 20,000 target we set for ourselves in 2006. "Given that Suzuki cars compete in less than half of the market segments, the 2007 sales figure represents a terrific result. "And with new models coming on stream to compete in new segments in the next 18-24 months, the future is looking very rosy," Devers said. The total figure of 21,575 sales was up 5,777 on the 2006 result, representing an increase of more than 36 per cent year on year. It saw Suzuki end the year with a market share of 2.1 per cent, up half a percentage point on the 1.6 per cent figure at the end of 2006. Every current model in the Suzuki line-up saw sales increases in 2007. The award-winning Swift light car totalled 13,283 sales for the year, up more than 3,100 sales year on year, recording a 31.1 per cent increase.
The Suzuki SUV line-up had another strong year with Grand Vitara sales up 12.6 per cent, while the evergreen Jimny saw resurgence in sales to end the year up 32 per cent on the 2006 figure. The new SX4 small car - which launched in 2007 - continued to attract increased interest from customers, while the APV light commercial van ended the year with a sales increase of 36.1 per cent. "We will hit the ground running in 2008 with the launch of a turbo-diesel version of the award-winning Grand Vitara. "We are confided it will attract a new legion of customers wanting the fuel efficiency of a turbo-diesel combined with Suzuki's legendary reliability and off-road ability. "We plan to continue our recent record of increased sales again in 2008, setting up for 2009 when we will celebrate 100 years of Suzuki with exciting new models," Devers said.
