Roadrunner Superbird for Melbourne auction
The Auction, on September 23, also has a Ford Thunderbird and pair of classic fastback Mustangs consigned, but the Superbird is set to trump the lot.
The 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird coupe is finished in the model's trademark Vitamin C Orange. Under the bonnet is a 440-cid Super Commando Six Barrel V8 engine, running to the Superbird's optional three-speed automatic.
Still LHD, and fitted with a bench front seat, the consigned Superbird has been in Australia for about five years and presents in fully-restored condition, with matching numbers.
Because of its legendary NASCAR history, its rarity and collectable status, Shannons expect the Superbird to sell in the $180,000-200,000 range.
Shannons Melbourne Spring Classic Auction will take place on Monday, September 23, at Shannons Melbourne auction rooms, 321 Warrigal Rd., Cheltenham.
