Shannons launch ‘Design to Driveway’ video series
Following their ‘End of an Era’ video series from 2019 that looked back at the Australian automobile manufacturing industry, Shannons have commissioned a new series, ‘Design to Driveway’, that focusses on the styling of cars that were built in and for Australia.
Hosted by journalist and artist Warren Brown (ex-Top Gear Australia), with interviews conducted by David Burrell (Shannons Retro Autos), the seven-episode original series, viewable on shannons.com.au/club, features the likes of Leo Pruneau, David Ford, Phil Zmood, Richard Ferlazzo and Graham Wadsworth.
“It’s incredible to think that more men have walked on the moon, than have held the position of Director of Design at Holden,” Burrell said. “We have the last three Holden designers to work in that storied role.”
While Holden and Ford designers feature most prominently, the series also interviews the stylists behind local vehicles from Chrysler, Mitsubishi and Leyland, too.
For some of those interviewed, Design to Driveway marks the first opportunity to speak publicly about their time in the design studio, whilst for others, the series presented a chance to tell their side of the story and set the record straight.
Each designer gives a view of what went on in design studios that were usually closed to all but the most senior executives, while also presenting never-before-seen images, designs and clay models of the cars that made it onto Aussie roads, like the Falcon GT and Chrysler Charger, as well and some that didn’t, like a rotary-powered Holden and Aussie-designed Mustang.
“This series has something to surprise every motor enthusiast. When I look at the cars we love and celebrate at car club events, it’s incredible to understand the stories behind them, and just how many untold secrets we reveal for the first time”, said Brown.
By the time you read this, all seven episodes of Design to Driveway will have been uploaded.
