Something for everyone at Shannons 2015 Melbourne Winter Auction
The standout lot of the Auction is a beautifully-restored 1920 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost with world-market appeal that is expected to sell in the $260,000 - $320,000 range.
Equally interesting to Pre-WW II enthusiasts is a rare 1935 Hispano-Suiza K6 'Vanvooren' Saloon in need of some recommissioning ($60,000-$80,000).
A beautifully presented 1973 Bolwell Nagari 351 V8 Coupe ($50,000-$60,000) that has been extensively rebuilt mechanically in the past 12 months is amongst the desirable classic road and track sporting cars crossing the block.
Others include a Bertone-bodied 1975 Dino 308 GT4 Coupe prepared for tarmac rallying ($32,000-$38,000) and a very rare 1986 535i Alpina B10 3.5 ($14,000-$18,000).
The weirdest vehicle in the auction is a Jeep-like 1971 Volkswagen Type 181 Kurierwagen, but irreverently dubbed 'The Thing' in the United States. Presented in head-turning camouflage paintwork, it is offered with 'no reserve' and conservatively is expected to bring $8,000-$12,000.
But one of the rarest is an extensively refurbished and collectible 1970 Peugeot 404 Utility - one of only a handful in Australia - that has come from a private collection of French cars and has been mechanically upgraded with a later 2.0-litre engine.
Grand American convertibles from the 1950s and 1960s are boldly represented by four General Motors beauties, led by a beautifully preserved 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible ($40,000-$50,000). Others include a 1957 Bel Air Convertible ($50,000-$60,000) and a vast 1965 Pontiac Catalina convertible ($30,000-$40,000).
Finally, Ford lovers have the choice of 13 models spanning nearly 80 years, starting with a rare and award-winning 'brass-era' 1912 Model T Tourer and finishing with a 'no reserve' 1994 model is offered with 'no reserve' 1994 Mustang GT 5.0 HO Coupe that is expected to bring $10,000-$15,000 when offered with 'no reserve'.
