Strong results at Chicane’s October auction
Melbourne-based boutique auction house, Chicane Auctions, saw an enthusiastic response to their most recent event. The timed online auction, held from 16 to 23 October, saw a very impressive 91 per cent clearance rate, with multiple consignments selling for six-figure sums.
Vehicles on offer covered classic Aussie muscle, European sports and modern performance, with some outstanding examples of automotive Americana, too.

Top seller was a 1989 ‘GTD 40’ Ford GT40 replica. The product of GT Developments in the UK, these GT40 replicas were well regarded, with most of the approximately 400 units they produced offered to the home builder in kit form. This example combined a Ford 302 Windsor with a Renault five-speed transaxle, four-wheel disc brakes, BRM replica wheels and Hoosier tyres.

Outside, Azure Blue paint with white striping and racing roundels evoked the GT40’s Le Mans history, while inside, authentic touches (with some concessions to comfort and usability) included the ‘ventilated’ seats, right-hand gear shift and an array of toggle switches on the wide dash.
Said to be imported from the UK by Ron Minogue (Kylie’s dad), who’s better known for his early Ford Mustangs that include a concours Shelby GT350 and GTA convertible, the GTD 40 sold within estimate for $158,000*.

Next best was a 1974 Ford XB Fairmont GS hardtop. The subject of a high-quality restoration that was completed three years ago, this GS, in rare Burnt Orange with Black trim, featured a 302 V8 and three-speed auto, 12-slot wheels and rare factory air conditioning. With only 111km driven since the restoration, this outstanding Fairmont hardtop sold above estimate for $128,000*.

Another outstanding car from this auction was a 1969 Holden HT Monaro GTS finished in the popular Verdoro Green with gold striping. While retaining a factory look inside and out, this restored Monaro had a drivetrain upgrade in the form of a modern 350 SBC and T400 automatic, with a B&M Quickshifter and modern sound system added inside. This car also sold above estimate, for $100,500*.
