Subaru made the new 'BRZ' - their version of the joint venture sports car with Toyota - available for purchase on the internet only

In a unique experiment in online sales and marketing, Subaru made the new 'BRZ' - their version of the joint venture sports car with Toyota - available for purchase on the internet only. The experiment paid off, with the 201 units allocated this year for Australia selling out in three hours.

The BRZ went "live" on the web from 12:45PM AEST, following a huge amount of online interest which actually froze the www.buybrzonline.subaru.com.au site ahead of the official sales period's commencement, which was 12 Noon on Monday, July 16th.

In the first five minutes, eight orders were initiated, with the first online customer completing the process (choosing accessories, completing their contract and paying their deposit) in just 20 minutes.

Subaru website traffic initially quadrupled from 12 noon AEST, with 50 BRZs sold in the first hour and a half. The available stock of 201 units was exhausted by 15:47PM AEST

These initial BRZ orders are against stock due to be delivered in early 2013. Details of the car were only revealed on Friday, July 13, including:
A National Driveaway Price* starting at $37,150
Free three year/60,000 kilometre scheduled service plan**
A five-star ANCAP occupant safety rating

While demonstrators will be available in selected dealerships, the BRZ experiment showed that "internet only" car shopping could be the way of the future.
