Subaru WRX concept
Despite describing the showcar as a concept only, Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), the maker of Subaru vehicles, says the low, wide Impreza-based concept hints at the design language of the next generation WRX.
The front design emphasizes what FHI call "the aggressive stance of WRX, together with solidity and stability." A prominent classic-style Subaru hexagonal grille has a three dimensional mesh pattern, together with the "hawk-eye" headlights. A large opening in the front bumper, plus a classic WRX bonnet scoop, wing ducts and flared wheelarches suggest the WRX's powerful turbocharged performance and handling.
A sharp character line runs from the front guard through to the rear, intersected by chunky wheelarches, while the rear design echoes the hexagonal design motif from the front grille and features a dramatically curved boot lid that also acts as a rear spoiler.
The wide rear bumper adds to the powerful street presence of the car and is offset by large quad exhausts, while the aggressive rear diffuser improves vehicle aerodynamics. To further enhance handling dynamics, the concept features a carbon roof for a lower centre of gravity and lighter weight.
The concept's colour is described as "WR Blue Pearl III" with the metalflake finish modernizing the classic WRX blue. In company with this, and keeping the classically-inspired colour theme going, fluorescent yellow is used as an accent on the front grille badge, brake calipers and the exhaust finisher, adding character notes to the design.
The 245/40ZR20 Dunlop tyres have an exclusive design tread pattern. The wheels are BBS "RI-D" One Piece Forged Duralumin. No word on powertrain features or specs suggest that the concept was either a standard-powered or an unpowered rolling shell.
