Summernats 26 aims to set burnout World Record
A minimum of 50 cars must take part in the world record attempt, and an official adjudicator from the Guinness World Records will be on hand to record whether or not history will be made this coming January.
The world record burnout attempt will christen the new burnout pad at 11am on Friday the 4th of January, 2013, and will be a highlight of the 26th running of the action packed event.
At Summernats 25, eighteen cars did a simultaneous burnout, so getting fifty cars involved is really upping the ante. The Guinness World Records didn't have a category for massed simultaneous burnouts, but Summernats General Manager Russ Avis convinced them to create one for Summernats 26.
To set the world record, a minimum of 50 cars will have to do a sustained stationary burnout for at least 10 seconds at the same time.
"We initially asked for the record to be set at thirty cars because we thought that would be a big number to manage, but Guinness went away and did some research, and they determined it had to be at least fifty cars," said Summernats co-owner Andy Lopez.
"Guinness pointed out that breaking a world record is meant to be difficult, so we're going to invite seventy cars just to make sure."
Lopez went on to say, "We're keeping the selection process for cars involved in the world record attempt under wraps at the moment, but it will be cars from the Liqui-Moly National Burnout Masters and Summernats Championship competitions.
Summernats 26 will be held at Exhibition Park in Canberra from the 3rd - 6th January, 2013. For more information and ticket prices, visit www.summernats.com.au
